tonight, i was doing it again. suddenly you stopped me and said,

mama was a little afraid that i have been over-doing "it"

"hh..how..?" i enquired

"by being HAPPY!... you taught me"

you did it again, warmed my heart immensely!

a few weeks ago you started to join the "older" kids in worship in the front rows. it is so comforting to see you part take in the prayers for other and worshipping God on sundays.

you will occasionally hum the songs we sang in church. you & i will try to recall the tunes and words.

It has been almost 2 months since I have last blogged.

During my absence in the blogs, I have been having great time with work and home (of course).

Mama is thankful for you my dear daughter. you have grown in to a very confident & sensible child. There are down time still but you have done well sarah!

school, kumon, music lessons are not easy for any 5 year-old. mama do not like to list the "achievements" here, but i must highlight your love for things you do, your friends, your family and life!

truly a blessing!

we have just came back from kl (bah-gogn-gong's house).

mama wished that we had more days there. you like the company of your cousins and of course the unsupervised-almost-unlimited tv viewing! =<

you swam, had a hair cut, played with the dogs... and above all you had a great time with everyone!

you have also been a very good girl. respecting the elders, practiced kumon, music ... mama is very proud of you.

i wonder when will we make a trip again...

yes, mama has returned to work. it's been 2 weeks.

several changes were made to our weekly routine. changes like such may chain-react to our daily lives.

~ mama remember these warning words, humming in the innocence of this lullaby.

1st of march marks some interesting dates for us.

some 4 years ago, you started your days at wee first infant care.

this 1st of march, marks the day mrs. oh is really gone. (sounds like it is harder for mama to get over!)

1st of march this year is also the day mama starts work at nanyang polytechnic (again).

"mrs oh school" - that's what we've been calling it since mrs oh has been your class teacher.

what are we going to call it ...? ~that was one of my first thoughts when i learnt that mrs. oh has resigned 3 weeks ago.

could we have done something? ~ yes
could we have done it earlier? ~yes

it doesn't matter anymore, as mrs. oh is not changing her mind. soon weng has probably been praying the hardest (such a sweet boy!)

sarah, mrs oh has made such an impact in your life so far... well not just you, but many of your friends. actually not just the children, but their (and your) parents too.

mama thank mrs. oh for her encouragement, her care, her interests in every child, her support, her honesty and her kindness. you often want to share your new experiences, your discoveries and often your grievances with her. she brought out the best behavior in you. she is a blessing, our blessing.

another hour of fun with these 姐姐s. This lesson was a little tough for most of the girls. But they made it at the end.

mama felt kind of sad as i know i won't be seeing them much very soon. even the thought of not seeing them the following week made me want to stay a little longer with them.

as it's papa's turn to clock in the hours for parent volunteer, the family get to enjoy the (ususal) "spill-over".

papa has signed up for badminton. he is not an expert/champion/enthusiast. but he knows the game, i think!

in order to volunteer, the bought himself a racket, AND he bought you and mama one too!

so recently, papa and you have been playing the game at home. you are pretty good for a starter.

it was another girls' night last night. Papa went to a concert at the Esplanade (by Echo and the Bunnymen).

It was not easy getting both of you to shower, 姐姐 to do kumon and then all to bed, but we did have fun!

mama was so happy when they accepted my offer to volunteer this morning.

this is probably hardly amusing nor proud to blog about for many parent, but i want to share our (papa's & mama's) journey with you ( and 妹妹).

today i got to spend the whole morning volunteering - 2 sessions as follows:

session 1 - mother tongue week

assist teachers it facilitating games

our game: 15 meter 3-legged race for at least 300 girls! all in batches of about 30 of course.

bonuses:

made a friend - aunt ke. turned out that she has a (3rd) daughter born 1 day after 瑞君！ what a co-incident. =) we first met last week when we both were lost on first day of volunteering. haha...

as usual, mama will always find ways to have fun and play with the children.

we are still unsure if this is right. with faith, some encouragement to each other, papa & mama decided to go ahead and volunteer our services to a primary school that we think may be good for you.

mama actually enjoyed the session very much. i spent an hour guiding some p2 girls in tile printing.

some of them made me smile- each have different personalities and name tags! i can call each of the 姐姐 by names.

bonus: get to wave hello to ky-linn 姐姐. unfortunately i won't get to spend time with her class.

the first thing mama will do after doctor give clearance of hanah's hfmd is to hug you!

you know that cos mama is taking care of hanah while she is down with hfmd, you cannot hug me, and i can't do that too. (hanah saliva is all over me !! eeks!)

you will stand with my back facing you and you will give me a mini-hug-like hug...hahha that really make my day.

mama recounted the time when you and I were both down! you were almost hanah's age then.

you'd tell me how you will help your new friends in "mrs. oh" school.

recently you have a new friend called zhi-chang. Like gao-hong, you will tell mama when you come home. you would show me who he is when i go to your school.

"he say (present) softly, so i tell him, louder!"

not that you are bossy, mama knows that you like to take care of children that are new in your class.

you will also encourage him. though you do not know what is "encouragement" right now, mama is happy that you took the initiative to make your new friend feeling better when things get a little tough in school.

"mama is so very proud of you!"

when i tell you that, you used to cheer... then you smiled...now you will just nod in acknowledgment.

"is that sarah growing up?" i thought.

it was great news when day care announced that they are organising swim classes for nursery and kindergarten children! mama signed you up with no hesitation. what can be better to learn something you enjoy TOGETHER with your friends!

after more then 2 years of not trimming them, i am so thankful that they are long enough to be trimmed. I wonder if i have ever mentioned it here. you were peeling and biting your nails so badly that they all refused to grow anymore! well not until recently. =)

finally took the clippers and trimmed them (not all, but i am happy). you were so intrigue that you pressed your little finger and lifted the nails, and grinned...

we started the kumon journey a little more then a month ago. you seem to enjoy it. pap & i can see that you have already benefitted from the coaching at the centre.

let's hope that your interest will continue ... we tried to resist spending time at those nice little ice-cream places while we are there.

it's photo taking day in school again! something that papa & mama look forward to each year. we are always surprised by how "grown up" you look or become in the pictures. mama also loves to see your friends in the group pictures. it's so joyous to see all of you looking different in each year's pictures!

this year we were so excited that we got the date wrong. we sent you for a hair cut too soon. Hence got to have you do it again 1 month later.

Preparation work includes:

choosing the right outfit
haircut (for "messy-hair-girl")
ironing of outfit ... this year,
we identified the suitable hair accessories, and
mama pre-blow your hair the night before!

you & i have chosen an outfit that is something sporty & simple. cos that's the way you are - active and simple. but the night before, you told me you wanted the "cherry" dress that 爸公公 bought you. that was a nice surprise. though the "cherry" (it was actually a strawberry) on the dress cannot be found anymore, mama let you wear what you chose anyway =)

i have been thinking hard. i haveno answer.

when i read you bedtime storie at 10pm, you were still well. you complained about pain near your jaw, we thought it was just the heatiness in you. when you woke at 12 am complaining pain, papa checked and realised that you look different. your salivary glands swelled up on both sides. papa brought you to the hospital.

i cried when you come home from the hospital yesterday at 3am. you were cheerful.

"boo! make you jump!" - you exclaimed. but you look so different that it was heart-wretching!

you fell asleep after much persuasion.

that night i dreamt of you. we were having a holiday, seem like the place i wanted to bring you when you next visit KL ...

you turned 4. what a wonderful 4 years you have given me so far!

we wanted to have simple celebration for you this year. but like most parties, it became quite an elaborate affair, that stretched over 2 days. Party with family and close friends on 10 may 2009 (sunday) & 11 may 2009 (monday).

ryan is the son of aunt elaine, mama's good friend. they (together with uncle philip) live in michigan, US. the family has not been back for more then 2 years now, s mama is very happy to see them =)

aunt elaine & mama have been friends for exactly 10 years now! (mama just realised minutes ago!) how time flies. aunt elaine is great friend and very fun to be with.

we both did some fun (and crazy) stuff together when we were younger... ;-) mama would love you to have friends like aunt elaine next time!

since that moment, every time i look at you, i tell myself she has grown up so fast. i felt as if i have been robbed by time, or by some mysterious force... mama cannot explain.

a few days ago dr yam told us that meimei will be arriving early.

we will see her on 11 nov 08 instead of originally 22 nov 08. that was a pleasant surprise, but also made mama nervous.

that means your wait will soon be over, that means you will be ''promoted'' sooner... that means mama have less carefree days to be with you (well we can still do that when meimei is here)... that means this family will soon be a family of 4 instead of 3...

at last, the day is so close, it's tomorrow!

mama can only remember the last 2 days. you haven't been well. in fact you have stomach flu. but you are still cheerful & continue to amaze with the wonderful things you say =) and the way you seem to change and progress.

one of the happiest thing for me since i stop working is to be able to notice so many little & big changes in you!

you have started sleeping in your "new room". you do enjoy staying there. it has been 2 weeks since you started. though occasionally you still want to come back to mama's room, but most of the time you prefer your own room! papa & mama still still accompany you most of the nights. but i am sure that soon you will be fine on your own. it's in fact harder for papa & mama to accustom to this arrangement! haha...

papa reminded my late posting agian.

We have spent half the month of august away from singapore.

We had loads of fun in bangkok, experiencing ''new'' things like the JJ market. you have bee there when you were very little, but this time you could really enjoy it!

The we went to australia with gong-gong, ah-mah and gu-gu. we had a good time. it was the first time we go out on a holiday as a family. even better, mei-mei came along (in mama's stomach) too! sarah, this is something very special you know?! =)

The last day we went to KL ( ba gong-gong's house) again. You are really excited about the trip.

This time papa cannot be with us...you got to be brave agian...

mama has finally stopped my full time job and has been able to go to school with you most of the mornings and see you when your day ended in childcare (mrs oh school you called it) =)

the family is gearing up for our new member. it is still a secret if baby is going to be a boy or girl.

you started with boy didi and now you say is going to be gir,meimei =) either way, we are excited.

you now begin to ask about baby and kiss baby.

mama is hoping to catch up some lost time with you. i know i could not replace those time i lost while working long hours for the last 2 years, i hope stopping full time work can help.

a few days ago, you told me " i like you!'' hugged me in enthusiasm. you have no idea how happy that makes me!

you are very expressive now. you tell us how you feel and makes you feel the way you do.

sounding like another excuse, mama was busy. everytime when it is near to month end, papa will lookout for an entry from me. but this month, he did not. papa is going through exams! home front it has been a lil...different and challenging.

day we went to register at nyps. yummy lemon cupcake. holland village

this is a new year that many chages in our daily lives take place.

you started to attend a ''new schooll''. you call it ''chinese school. it is actually nanyang kindergarten.

mama was glad to be able to be with you the 1st 2 days. you abapted well & like the new environment. mama was very worried about the logistics of you missing lunch, nap and a care taker to bring you to and from pick up point of school bus. also how well will you settle in the arrangement of school bus...

mama was confident though, that God will make it right. if attending chinese school is too much for you, God will let me know.

mama felt bad really. didn't want to give up the chance of getting you in this good school that many regard it. i wasn't sure if it was worth missing nap, lunch and time with friends in childcare for.

gradually, but surely, things fall into place. you got used to being alone in the school bus from the 3rd day! papa watch you from afar in school and when aunt jessie came fetch you to pick up point. and yes, God provides! bus attendant (aunt jessie) is very kind to agree to help us.

you are stll very tired cos ususally you miss nap by the time you return to childcare centre. mama is confident that things will work out well. if it is too much for you, God will help.

2nd day at nyps, assemble to wait for school bus. very hungry girl.

long over-due update

it has been another month of packed schedule and bleak of impossibility to get by each week. lets take stock of the month's development...

fun time at the earth day picnic with childcare centre at the labrabor park. our centre (ghim moh) won 1st prize in the mascot competition! papa was the recycled man in carton box, newspaper head gear and a paper hear! teachers and friends were all proud =) the best part of the day was all fun and learning about being green and loving planet earth!

then there was a week that mama most dreaded. mama when to the uk for work. whilst mama was happy to visit the country again, it was painful to not see you. i tried not to think too much about it, and imagine in future days, the great places to show and enjoy with you.

the week went by pretty quickly and we zoomed off to hong kong straight after mama came back to singapore! wow, it was wonderful to be able to spend all the time with you. we first went to disneyland, and met ba-gonggong, ah-mah, kaykay jj, wai yee jj, wai meng gor-gor, wai hong gor-gor at the disneyland hollywood hotel. it was very exciting for everyone to meet in another country other then the one we normally stayed in.

the next 7 days were time very well spent. disneyland with jj and gorgor, taking each day slowly, no rush, mama not having to worry about the loads of work waiting for me in the office. mama was determined to spend quality time with you. even engineered time for papa to go out with wai meng gor-gor!! heehee =) we also got to meet up with cheng-yi, fay fay jj and uncle simon!

God has been really kind to us sarah! indeed so so blessed!

it pains me when you say 'dou-man mama...!" ( don't want mama).

this has been going on for months now. i told myself it will get better, i will do better. but i didn't seem to be doing better.

i know part of the reasons for such behavior. i only have myself to blame. mama asked God for help, but mama don't seem to listen to Him hard enough.

better manage my time - less time at work, more efficient working hours..., less time with friends and myself...patient with you. ensure time spend with you is quality time, more time with you now with papa back to school...

all did not seem to work. is staying home the only solution here? will it really get better?

mama really want you to grow up happy, confident, and not forgeting - righteous. ( that's why your name is 君 "jun")
it pains me, but mama have to continue insisting the vales that are so fast diappearing in modern living. Immediate gratification, fun and convinience surpass virtues and standards. mama is not perfect, far from perfect. but i am trying my very best.

yes, everybody is going to school- sarah goes to school every morning, mama goes to work in a school (well it's an institution where big people learnt) and very recently, papa has gone back to school too!

every tuesday, thursaday and saturday mama gets to spend more time with you! pick you up from school... sometimes lead us to wonderful ''adventures''. Spending exclusve quality time with you on saturdays, what a luxury!

it gets tough sometimes, for papa, you and me. but we will be fine =)

mama stepped out of the car, saw an elmo balloon floating away. mama pointed it out to you. you were determined to see it fly, so did papa. and it went.

it was the day before you turned 26 months. mama was told, "...baby no longer.."

since then the image of elmo balloon repeated in my mind over & over... but i could not see it disappear.

that night you kissed baby for the last time.

mama would have written about how you were slowly accepting baby joining us.

the next day, you were in school especially early. papa and mama went to the hospital again. by noon, baby left us.

It's Father's Day today.

we went to church together. You were playing with your baby&stroller the whole time...until you started to cry in the church, cos you were upset with papa giving another lil' girl a sweet! Oh Sarah, papa loves you!

we had lunch with jancy ah-yi at wine co. I watched papa and you chatting and playing at the counter. lovely sight. brough smiles to mama's face.

at home, papa was giving you a shower, afetr a long persuasion and promise of fun with beach toys! Heard you two chatting about the toys, the water...wow...weeeee...lovely! =)

here's the over-due post about your 2nd birthday. before you turn 25 months in a few day's time...here it goes, as much as i can recall...

11 may 2007, beautiful sunny day. cool spring zephyr in the air.

papa's even was over, we could spend a day with him. we decided to go down town san diego, gaslamp quaters.

sum up this special day in a few words:

shopped, balloons, pictures click click click, noisey italian restaurant, sparkling birthday candel on 1st tiamisu...sarah watched in amazement! sing our way hom=), ribbons, fairy, sweet dreamsss...

you were not at your best behavior i have to say. but as the day moved on, it got better. you are trying to communicate something to us. though we are doing that better now, all 3 of us, you papa and mama need to be more patient with each other still.

i cannot figure out what to do. mama wonder how can i do a better job in leading you along the "right path"...but which is right or which seem right, but is actually wrong?

countless questions i asked myself all the time. I did alot more during the trip. paid close attention to you, your reactions, your tantrums, your joy etc...

at the end i told myself,

"...just enjoy the moments with her...i'll figure some of them out later..."...which i did =)

here we are at san diego.

you did well travelling all those hours. was tough on you though.

mama was so looking forward to spend allllll the time with you.

you talked even more this trip. i am having so much fun with you! just being with you.

you still have trouble sleeping from 12am to 5 am... that explains papa and mam's leepy eyes.

we stayed at sharlinn JJ and kenny gorgor's place fro the 1st 2 nights. you favourite thing to do - walk dog (you called it ''hold dog''/ ''hold wowo'') =)
and when we get home, you wanna play with them.

now we are staying in a resort called estancia la jolla. pretty estate. we are so lucky to me able to experience this.

i was watching this movie onboard the plane that was bringing me so far away from you. missing you so much, sigh...

miss potter- the movie was an enchanting story about the writter (beatrix potter) of ''the tale of peter rabbit'' and many more children stories. it was the beauty of this creative lady and her childhood that mama (ok...i confess) hope that one day you'd be like her - confident, gracious, generous, followed your heart and happy! = )

actually you enjoyed one of her other stories (2nd story) - the tale of jemima puddle-duck (1908) abigale jiejie gave you this little book just before chinese new year.

the movie was beautifully made, and one day mama will bring you to lake district!

i am leaving for philadelphia in about 10 days.

this is going to be the first time we don't go to bed with having each other. mama is worried. i wonder if papa can cope without me. actually i believe that he can. i wonder if i can cope without you 2! =(

today we went to baby natelie's 1 month party. she is a beautiful baby of aunt sandra. natelie is borned on 15 febuary 2007! 1 day after st valentines day, 1 day before chinese new year.

then we went o xuefen ahyi's place for tea and you went for a swim with papa and uncle daniel. he also showed you how to throw a basket ball reeeeeeal high! hahaha..he regretted doing that ;)

after the swim you were so tired. we went to peng-yi's house for yi-cheong's birthday party. his actual birthday was 18 march. but people do celebrate it earlier, so that there is more fun! and we get to rest the next day =)
